The Depth of Silence

Our character is honed in the depth of silence.
Silence can wear many faces that cause us to make different choices.
The face of discomfort - when you experince discomfort, what do you chose?
to sit and explore your thoughts - is what you are thinking true? If not then what?
do you pick up your phone and scroll? What are you trying to avoid?
do you get up and walk around? What are you hoping to find? Is it helpful or harmful?
Discomfort is not a feeling we readily choose and yet when we find a way that fits us best to respond, it can serve us well. It can hone our character as we persevere or seek to find our way through the situation.
Pay attention to where your mind goes when there is silence. Does the places it goes to edify or stregthen who you are or does it diminish or seek to defeat the goodness within you?
If it strengthens or edifies you, then examine it, embrace it and see what more you can learn for moving forward.
If it diminishes or defeats you then find a way to stop believing your thoughts, as it is only a thought and you are the one who is the master of your thoughts.
And now dear brothers and sisters, one final thought. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honourable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worhty of praise. Phillippians 4:8
Consider how you are finding and filling your mind with all that this verse instructs us to do. Where is this rhythm of goodness and grace showing up in your life? Pay attention this week and pursue it.
