As I think of all of you who have influenced my life I am reminded of one particular lesson I learned along the way.
It does not matter who you are, you are never too important to take time to experience gratitude and to express gratitude to those who reach out to you.
As a young teen I remember the day I sat in my Grade 9 Classroom and heard the announcement over the loud speaker that John F Kennedy had been assassinated.
Shock, horror, fear! In the days that followed I wrote a letter to Jacqueline Kennedy to express my sympathies for her loss. I didn't know where to mail it so I addressed it to Washington, DC. I put a stamp on it and put it in the mail box.
To my surprise, sometime later a black lined envelop arrived in our mailbox addressed to me with the return address reading from Jacqueline Kennedy. Inside the envelop was a thank you card written to me thanking me for taking the time to express my sympathies on her loss.
That left a lasting impression on me of the power of a grateful spirit followed up by grateful actions.
So Saturday we celebrate and I am honoured to express gratitude.
